Aguaconsult provides advisory support to the Sustainable Services Initiative
Aguaconsult regularly collaborates with international NGO partners such as WaterAid, Water for People and IRC to address aspects of the WASH sustainability challenge; we are also core members of the Agenda For Change collaboration. We are now excited to be supporting WeltHungerHilfe (WHH) with their global Sustainable Services Initiative (SSI) – WHH is one of the largest NGOs in Germany and works in around 35 countries worldwide.
Since late 2017 we have been collaborating with WHH and are increasingly engaging with other SSI partners such as the German Toilet Organisation and Viva con Agua, which is the funder behind this initiative that is seeking to strengthen the sustainability of their country programming in WASH. The SSI is working in four countries, including Nepal, Ethiopia, Uganda and Malawi and is testing a number of approaches to better analyse and strengthen local WASH systems and institutions, particularly at the sub-national level.
The SSI aims to apply systems strengthening activities across a diverse range of contexts, for example: in fragile states such as in Somaliland and the Karamoja region of Uganda and in contexts of widespread institutional reform such as Nepal. Lessons from implementing the SSI in such contexts, and as a multi-sectoral (rather than WASH-specific) INGO, will be of value not only to WHH but to the wider WASH sector. As such, a key component of the SSI is regarding learning and dissemination with events planned this year including at Agenda for Change learning platform in June, Stockholm World Water Week, and the IRC-led Systems Symposium in March 2019.
