Global Associate
Ben is an experienced WASH consultant, evaluator and practitioner with over six years of experience working across implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and research in water, sanitation and hygiene. Ben has a specific interest in the complex web of people, institutions, finance and technology, which underpins the sustainability of WASH services, and how this can be assessed and understood.
Ben’s recent experience has been in the monitoring and evaluation of WASH programmes. He has contributed to and led multiple assignments ranging from undertaken rapid review missions to managing global evaluations for multilateral organisations. Ben’s evaluation experience includes understanding how organisations have approached systems strengthening in fragile and conflict-afflicted states.
Ben started his WASH career researching successful community-managed rural water services across three states in Northern India as part of the Community Water plus project. This work established the enabling environment which supported the most sustainable examples of community-managed rural water services. Ben has recently developed and delivered training on the life-cycle costs approach for rural water services to local government officials in Somaliland and Kenya.
Ben previously lived in Northern Uganda and managed non-construction activities for an NGO-led WASH programme across two districts. His work included working closely with local government, communities and the private sector to strengthen institutions, governance and financing for more sustainable rural water services.
