Aguaconsult focal areas in 2024

From a start in Rural Water in 2003, Aguaconsult is now well regarded and is now regularly engaged in several thematic areas of work across water and sanitation and is a member of several high-level strategic platforms and initiatives.

Over the last five to ten years, we have successfully moved beyond a principal focus on rural water supply, dominated by grant funding, into several content areas that are more cross-cutting, including urban water and sanitation. Our principal technical focus areas in 2024 now include:

Citywide Inclusive Sanitation: city-wide assessments, household surveys, market assessments and business modelling, as well as contributing to government policy for urban sanitation.
Climate Resilience: research, development, and planning of climate resilient WASH interventions, improve water resource management, financing for climate resilient WASH and working with government and other partners to develop appropriate policies to guide interventions.
Data for decision-making: analysis of the use of data, including the political economy in which data are used and the processes around decision-making in WASH that influence resource allocation, reactive O&M, district-wide planning and national-level monitoring.
Financing: researching and testing alternative, innovations in financing from micro-credit to impact investments and support to government and partners in WASH financing.
Policy, Institutions and Regulation: research and policy reform processes, organisational assessments, and support for strengthening regulatory frameworks.
Professionalising management arrangements: research and piloting of alternative management arrangements including PPPs and strengthening of community management options.
Systems Strengthening: analysis of WASH systems and design of interventions that can support stronger elements of a system at national and local (district) levels.
