Jim has 30 years of experience in water services. During this time, he has worked mainly in the disciplines of infrastructure creation and operations management. He has a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a registered Professional Construction Project Manager.

Since October 2017 he has worked as a consultant, using his extensive experience to provide technical assistance services to clients in South Africa and internationally. For 15 years prior to that he was the general manager, and shareholder, of a civil engineering consultancy firm. In this time, he was responsible for the leadership and day to day management of the firm and fulfilled the role of project director and team leader on many occasions. From 1995 to 2001 he was office manager at both water service provision and engineering consulting firms.

Earlier in his career Mr Gibson spent five years managing a multi-disciplinary rural development project for an NGO. His career began in pipeline technology research for the gold mining industry in South Africa.He has undertaken numerous assignments that have developed his respected experience resulting in many invitations to facilitate, and speak at, local and international workshops, conferences, and seminars.

His specific skills and areas of expertise are Infrastructure Asset Management, Electro-Mechanical Equipment, Operations Planning and Organisation Design and Performance Monitoring and Benchmarking.  He is also an associate of the IRC.
